Magic works against them in this dungeon, but it does basically the same damage as physical and doesn't crit. I just encountered 3 of them and really want to know if anyone has successfully landed an instant death move on them.

Not entirely true. I've killed at least 3 of them with light/dark spells in the december dungeon, although rare due to them being str in both light and dark.
They resist Hama/Mudo, they don't Null or repel it. Whoever said that is wrong, but I don't suggest it as "resist" means it will rarely hit.
Almighty Skills > Physical > Light/Dark is basically the order you should use. If you have Megido or higher, that is the best option. If not buff, debuff, and use Masukunda to maximize damage/accuracy with physical skills. I'm making sure Yosuke keeps his Megido skill from his bike encounter just for these guys (I also use Naoto now that I have her and she can learn all elemental skills).
