I've been thinking about the Investigation Team and the Three Stooges the past couple of days, and there are some pretty bizarre parallels.

For one thing, there's a Stooge for every member of the IT. Here they all are, in the order in which they joined...

Teddie = Ted Healy
MC = Moe
Yosuke = Larry
Chie = Shemp
Yukiko = Curly
Kanji = Joe
Rise = Curly Joe
Naoto = Emil

Ted Healy wasn't technically a Stooge, but he brought the Stooges together as part of his Vaudeville act. First Moe, followed shortly by Moe's friend Larry, followed shortly by Moe's brother Shemp. He was their boss, and thus had veto power over who joined. Similarly, only Teddie can truly bring new members into the IT, by giving them the glasses that enable them to function in TV World. Healy and the Stooges had a falling out at one point, and the Stooges split off on their own, but returned to Healy's act after a couple of years (a few years later, Healy died). Similarly, Teddie leaves the IT for a while in December, then returns. And did you notice that Teddie and Healy have the same first name?

Moe was the undisputed leader of the Three Stooges. When he died, the Stooges were no more. Similarly, if the MC dies, it's Game Over. Moe and the MC also have very similar hairstyles. And shortly after the end of the Stooges' long run, they were resurrected briefly in the form of cartoon shows... and there's now a Persona 4 anime.

Larry was always the second Stooge, essentially Moe's primary partner in the Stooges enterprise, but still ultimately second banana. The Stooges were able to go on without him after the stroke that ended his long career. Yosuke occupies a similar position in the IT; in his Social Link, he even confides in you that he feels inferior, and he needs to fight you so he can feel like your equal.

Shemp was the original third Stooge. With him, the group was complete. Similarly, after Chie joins, the IT is complete, and embarks on its first rescue mission.

More to come...

Curly is the definitive third Stooge. He's iconic in that role. Similarly, it's Yukiko who really completes the IT, giving you a full party. Also, like Curly, Yukiko is the goofiest member of the team, with her giggling fits and her fondness for the Groucho glasses. And Curly had to change his hairstyle to get Healy's approval to join the Stooges (he had a big red afro and a handlebar mustache when he first tried out for the job); similarly, Yukiko is the only character who gets a hairstyle change from a costume (Ceremonial Kimono). Well, apart from the Drag Costumes... but the Three Stooges did the occasional drag routine, too.

Joe joined the Stooges after Curly and Shemp died. He was the first Stooge who was neither related to Moe nor a lifelong friend. Similarly, Kanji is the first member of the IT to come from outside your little circle of friends. Also, Kanji's sexual confusion, along with the fact that the MC can sort of flirt with Kanji sometimes, has its own mirror in the Stooges; Joe often holds Moe's hand in his appearances. And just as Kanji is ultimately heterosexual, and a little bit of a mama's boy, Joe left the Stooges to spend more time with his ailing wife. Sound a bit like an event in Kanji's Social Link?

When Curly Joe joined, the Stooges quit doing black-and-white shorts and began doing feature-length color movies. Similarly, Rise is a budding movie star, and brings all sorts of sensory powers to her role with the IT that Teddie lacks (which ties in to the color thing). And just as Curly Joe is generally considered the weakest of the Stooges, Rise is the only IT member who can't fight.

Emil wasn't officially a Stooge until Larry had the stroke that ended his career; prior to that, though, he appeared in so many Stooges shorts that he was unofficially nicknamed The Fourth Stooge. Similarly, Naoto is your final party member, who joins after kinda-sorta cooperating with and working alongside the IT for a couple of months.

Here's another odd Three Stooges parallel that I forgot about earlier...

Chie = Shemp in this analysis, right? Well, Chie was initially hostile to Teddie, and Shemp did not like Ted Healy. When the Stooges made up with Healy and went back to work with him, Shemp refused to go back (he later returned, long after Healy had died, after Curly had a stroke). And when you return to TV World to meet up with Teddie for the second time, who stays behind? Chie. Also, she holds a lifeline for the MC and Yosuke; similarly, Shemp extended a lifeline of sorts to Moe and Larry when he returned to the Stooges, because they really needed him back with Curly gone.
