Obtained Izanagi...how?

It seems all the party characters obtained their Persona after their Shadow boss was defeated.

However, during the story, it seems the MC obtains his Persona during the cutscene as the first shadows appear. Shortly after attacking Yosuke, Izanagi is revealed, and right after the battle with 2 Slipping Hablerie:

"MC has faced his other self..."

Wait a second, I don't remember MC fighting any other self?

Do not argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

It's explained later.

Without revealing any spoilers, he's special, just like a different key character. If you want to know why, get the true ending.

It's not, really. Nowhere is it explained why Yu was able to simply call his persona, or why he never had a shadow-self. Other things were explained, like why he could enter the TV world, but nothing else.

It was awaken by the Gas Attendant

The "push" he got unlocked his persona (which is what's needed to access the TV world) without the usual kerfuffle. Simples.

Having to explain your joke doesn't make it clever, but having to have a joke explained to you doesn't make it unfunny.

Yeah. Except that the 'push' just allowed him to freely enter the Hollow Forest / TV. Namatame didn't have a persona, though he did have a shadow. Adachi had both a shadow and a persona simultaneously. Yu just has a persona without a shadow. None of this is ever really explained. Also, Yu could enter the TV before he ever actually awakened his persona.

Except, you know, on the second or third night in the game where fights a then-unknown monster with Izanagi in his dreams.

Funny thing about dreams? They're not reality. That aside, it's still unexplained. Everything so far is conjecture, nothing more. Also, way to miss the forest for the trees.

Considering you visit Igor several times while dreaming that's not really a valid point.
