Damn crazy numbers. Really surprised to see as many as 20 people saying it's their fave of all time. I'm curious as to how long they've been gaming, what other games they play, and how many RPGs they've touched.

I have been gaming since 1990, my first game was Dragon Warrior that I played with my sister. I have completed well over 200 RPGs since then including series such as Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and a lot of other stuff. I've played most of the SNES classics, even some that never got an official translation, and I am well versed in Arpgs as well as Srpgs. Currently sitting in my vita is Ragnarok Odyssey, currently in my 3ds is Pokemon Black 2, and currently in my PS3 is Ni no Kuni, which has been treating me well so far. I also play a ton of World of Warcraft.
Persona 4, and thus now Persona 4 Golden, is my favorite game because I am never happier when gaming than when I I am playing this game. Playing through the story there is a certain joy to the game that I just can't get anywhere else. I have only felt this way when gaming once before, my former # 1 game and that would be Dragon Quest V. Is Persona 4 perfect? For me it is very close, I can't say for other people. this game just brings me a lot of joy when i play it and I fell in love with the cast, the setting, and just about everything with the game.
So there's your answer from one person. Thanks for the input! A lot of what you said actually did push this game further up my list. Welp, I just completed my second playthrough doing everything... after going through the Hollow Forest (since I missed it my first playthrough), and seeing the content in the TV section in the main menu (I'm surprised the quizzes were voiced as such), I bumped this up to my 2nd fave RPG, thus making it into my top 5. As an overall package (content, bosses, character interaction, characters themselves, reasons for characters' existence from a design standpoint, the music [Oh GOD the music!], interface), this definitely belongs in my top 5 games of all time. Definitely one of the best. Too many blatant flaws to say sheer quality. It has one strength in my opinion; social links. and maybe fusion but because fusion is so damn complicated it's also a weakness. the jrpg elements are quite poor. random loot. random floors. bosses with poor difficulty progression. random game overs because your opponent lucked out with hama/mudo. buffs being stupidly overpowered. debilitate being flat out broken. damage formula incentivizing grinding. enemy AI seems flat out stupid as f*** sometimes. (seriously why the f*** wont ameno sagiri use heat riser->mind charge then akasha arts->nebula oculus). healing being flat out broken in this game. bosses having way too much hp and making fights boring since you know you can kill the boss, you just have to spend twice as long compared to other games. the game honestly makes me feel like a handicap winning a race against an idiot. the bosses could kill me at any time but the s*** AI won't ever string together a few brilliant moves in a row --- Anime is for losers. You do not have a Waifu, and if she existed she would never date a loser like you. She would laugh before walking away. |

It's good...but not THAT good. Nowhere near a top anything.
for me.
There's been a lot of great RPGs. If you include the strategy sub-genre as well, it gets tough. Not to mention P4 has a severe lack of difficulty, P3 was better and had greater innovation and impact...
P4 had really great characters out of the box. Such great masterpieces that it almost makes up for it's other flaws, including lack of development for said characters. (Social Link Go! doesn't count.)

RavenShinobiPosted 2/23/2013 1:37:52 AM | It's a fun addicting game, but it's not my favorite Persona or Megaten game, much less favorite game of all time. Personally, I had more fun with Persona: Eternal Punishment, Devil Survivor 2, Digital Devil Saga and SMT: Nocturne.
