I didn't see it as confused, I saw it as him being scared of Yukiko's ire. Also, I always reasoned Kanji not getting drunk as him being able to tell it wasn't alchohol (probably from some experience with the real thing) as there's a line where he smells it, tries to voice dissent, but quickly gets brushed aside by someone (I forget who).


I dunno honestly. He never struck me as someone who would drink despite the tough guy attitude he tried to put on.

I think it makes a bit of sense since most strangers believe him to much older than he actually is. As for how it meshes with his personality, eh. I mean he's a softie but there are some legitimate tough guy elements to him like his almost playful relationship with violence.
