I can name ten really good japanese composers (Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Koichi Sugiyama, Yoko Shimomura, Noriyuki Iwadare, Michiru Yamane, Koji Kondo, Yuzo Koshiro, Hiroki Kikuta, Shoji Meguro ) but only one western composer (David Wise), all from memory.

Jeremy Soule (Guild Wars, The Elder Scrolls (since Morrowind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWuNf4gxwuM )
Harry Gregson-Williams (Metal Gear Solid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKlNdzpICW0 )
Christopher Tin (Civilization http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A )

Ok so I could only come up with three Western composers but then I couldn't come up with more than three Japanese composers either I'm bad with names.

Love that guy's music.
Mount and Blade is a lot like Fire Emblem, except that instead of Lance beating Sword Lance beats everything but Castle.

Yeah but most movie soundtracks aren't stuff you'd listen to outside the actual movie.

Good point.

Telltale Games has a very talented musician working for them ever since said musician left his band to follow his passion for gaming.

Oddly enough, he doesn't do music for them iirc.
