Digital Download only for US like WO3?

I'm confused now. On their Facebook page, they said it was a digital only release, but a post that just appeared on the PS Blog today says it's a simultaneous digital/Bluray release now.

Arriving in November 2012 as a simultaneous digital and Blu-ray release, PS3-exclusive One Piece: Pirate Warriors takes the insanely popular manga/anime series to new heights in this stylized brawler. Players take control of One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, with his stretchy, rubber-like limbs, to do battle against a number of series villains with his Straw Hats pirate crew. The game offers both story and battle modes, among others, and the ability to fight dozens of on-screen enemies simultaneously (a la Dynasty Warriors).

Because a digital-only release is cheaper. All they need to do is translate all the written text in the game and that's it. No dub is needed on a DLC game so no voice actors have to be paid, no spending money on printing manuals and discs and cases. Namco Bandai seems to think that One Piece is a bad property in the US and that this game will sell largely to the built-in fanbase of the Warriors series, and the sad thing is that they're probably right. This is a much safer route sales-wise.

I'm fine with digital download, and English subs. At least we're finally getting the game.

They show a box at the end of this trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFmVzvrHnB4&feature=g-all-u&context=G22297acFAAAAAAAABAA

Very happy to see that Europe is getting a box and a disc atlest.
I hate it when games only get digital releases.
Strongly prefer to own a real copy of the game.

It's not digital only. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/04/17/namco-bandai-gamers-day-2012-tekken-tag-2-ni-no-kuni-and-more/

Tch, November? I had assumed this game wouldn't have all that much text to translate. Why would you want to release this game along side the Wii-U? Poor planning again Namco.

What does the wii u have to do with anything? A nintendo console and a ps3 exclusive anime tie in are in such different markets, you'd need to use a space shuttle for the commute.

Not quite. It's on a person to person matter, but people who'd want both now have to decide which of the 2 they want when it comes out. If it was between 2 games, most people could justify the costs for both, but even they rarely seem to get both, and rather get one and wait on the other. In this case it's a game and system+games, which is a much bigger strain on the wallet.

One Piece is on a different system, but that doesn't mean the Wii-U's release won't have any sort of impact.

Since the game is not going to have english voice acting, and Sony has an issue with PS3 games without english voice acting in America, it will a PSN game only. Not one piece fans watch one piece in english anyway.

But the Yakuza games get released in America and they only got Japanese voice acting.
So why cant this game get a retail release in America?

Because it just was. It got a pass on the rule. Maybe they payed Sony a lot of money. The Yakuza games having disc releases does not at all improve the chances of OP getting one in the US. There is a 90% chance that this game will be digital-only. Namco Bandai has said it on Facebook. Digital-ONLY, they've said. If you're still doubting this you can either hope for a miracle or come to terms with the fact that there will be no disc in the US and order the EU version or something.
