Hate to sound like an elitist but I just nostalgia'd hard, remembering the first gen monster hunter. I'm not sure if it's just me but MHF still gave me the most feelings. Best experience I've ever had with any game other than my original SNES when my friends would come over and we'd play Mario Kart, SF2, Killer Instinct and Contra 3. There's just a lot of things that were in the old MH that they "fixed" now and I guess it was those complains that, looking back, actually made the game worthwhile. A prime example is the camera. I don't know anyone who complained about the camera at first, but eventually is just grew on everyone. I kinda miss that. The gathering quests, yes, everyone hated them but I remember having to do powderstone runs JUST so we could get that next upgrade in the farm. I feel like upgrades at the farm just automatically unlock themselves now. I remember the first big wall was Kut-Ku and it was a race amongst my friends to who could clear it first. Then Rathalos, followed by every other Urgent in the village. We didn't even reach 5* and we started trying to raise our HR. I remember we tried to do four horns. I had the first upgrade of the cephalos GS on a mix of azure los and black belt armor, my friend using PBA with his garuga set (he knew about the glitch...) and my third friend using full khezu with eternal schisms(that lucky mofo). We spent all day just hunting trying to get each of us to HR 2. I remember we all rocked the same armor even till high rank, till my friend with the khezu armor finally got kirin armor. To be honest, I don't even remember a lot of tedious farming. I do remember the countless amount of failed quests when we all just started and went straight to doing online quests. It was an intense experience. One of the best feelings was learning something new. We learned so much in the MH universe that wasn't in your typical game. Who remembers "what does this big red button do? ...Oh, awesome!" Or other epic stuff like jumping on lao's back for the first time. Learning all the stuff you could do in the guild hall. Secret shortcuts, even just learning about the mechanics was freaking awesome. Like seriously, who remembers learning about the superman dive and using it to save themselves countless times or even the kick function to save teammates who didn't have earplug? I even remember everytime we would go on a hunt we all followed a set of algorithms religiously. Eat, pet the piggy, go to box and double check inventory. Each of us packing what items we deemed suitable. Back then you were only limited to 3 pages of inventory. And I'm kind of an organizational freak so I would put all my items to fill the last two pages that way all the loot would be on the first page for easy deposit. Don't get me wrong, I still love the franchise. It just feels different. Or maybe it was funner when we all sucked lol. Quests actually made us feel accomplished! Unfortunately, I never played the original online MH on PS2 but that must've been an experience. (FYI, I've played all portable versions, MHF1, MHF2, MHP2G/FU, MHP3)

The OG monster hunter days were back when I was in Junior High, now that I go to uni, I barely see Mr Khezu armor till HR5 and my other friend I just barely see him even though we go to the same school Mr Garuga glitch, neither have 3DS' and neither still plays. Luckily, I convinced some other friends but they're all really new to the series.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

I remember good times back in high school playing with a regular group of friends. It wasn't MH though. MH wasn't released until I'd been through college already. But I remember those as some good times. They're hard to replace as time goes on.

Haha I feel you man. IMO the series has progressed and gotten much better. Nostalgia will always cause us to alter our perception of something.
I have been playing since MH on PS2. I had some great times playing online with my bud (i only had 1 real life friend who played MH). However, when i go back and play the original MH on my dusty PS2, it is pretty boring. MH has grown for the better, it is more fun now. One big example is the Greatsword charge. Did you know the GS had no charge attack in the original MH?

Sadly, I have no real life friends who play Monster Hunter now (my old friend stopped playing).
I will still have a blast playing MH3U online though.

If you're getting the WiiU version, we should hunt together.
Im not really sure what weapon I will use for 3U though... I have mained Longsword, Hammer, and Lance in past games.
