Meh....I have seen some really helpful people around here.
If one bad apple spoils the whole bunch, then every single board here at Gamefaqs is just a spoiled mess.

I also really really REALLY wanted to love this game.
I played the crap out of Monster Hunter on the PS2 with my friend.
I bought a 3DS about 2 months ago and was so stoked when I saw this was coming out. I have not owned any other system that has a MH game, so I was super excited.

Then the demo came out and I hate it.
Sorry...not trolling.
I blame myself for not being able to get the control down, because others have obviously been able to figure it out.
I told myself to keep trying...and i did to an extent. But when I put the demo on, I play for maybe 10 minutes and just turn it off out of frustration.

This is going to sound a bit dramatic here....but I am a bit devestated.
I was really looking forward to spending hours and hours gathering and hunting and exploring.

I may still pick it up.
Someone said something in this thread that made me consider it....that by the time I am fighting the monsters in the demo I would have had plenty of experience and gotten better.
But damn....I just don't know if I want to take the risk. My very long gaming history (been playing since my folks bought me an Atari in 1981) is littered with games I bought and for whatever reason did not play/enjoy.

It's only $40.

I am 16 and jobless, even I can afford that.

But yeah like I said, by the time you get up to the tougher monsters, you will have worked out the camera, attacks and everything.

watch this dude at the begging of the video, and near the end. HUGE jump in improvement.

But seems like this is a love it or hate it niche kind of title. I was surprised that killing the "easy" monster required many potions and literally 100 hits of my sword at least. I thought the game was more demons souls with hunter/gatherer elements but feels very Japanese in terms of design. Obtuse, confusing, and lifeless world map, just a bunch of connected rooms is an area

Also using the camera with either dpad with is below stick is fail, so is virtual touch screen. I wish this came out on Vita.

Should I try the Wii version of Tri? Which one is more beginner friendly?

Ignorance at its best. Yes, this game is a love or hate type of game, but your reasons are all wrong, you have no legitimate reason to dislike the game, by what you have said.

This game doesn't hold your hand, it's quite brutal to be honest, but this is something that the demo doesn't really focus on. The demo is only 1/3 of the game, the other parts consist of gathering (either recourses or monster materials) and making sets/weapons

However, because you said that this would be better on the vita, I'm going to regard this as a troll/fanboy topic and as such, you should not be taken seriously

The crappy controls are a great reason. Get over yourself.

YES, watch that video. The guy is absolutely terrible at the beginning...just like I was when I tried the demo. Then he improves dramatically with advice.

After coming here, I did a little research, listened to what people said, and asked a lot of questions for a week or two. I watched the linked video AFTER doing that, I could immediately begin to see what I could do better.

It took me four or five tries each to kill the Bunny with the Hammer and Light Blowgun.

Then I tried with the Sword and Shield and did it easily on my first try!

The game is hard, to be sure, but you get a huge sense of satisfaction when you succeed.

Thanks for the video link. I will have to check ouit out when I get home from work...Youtube is blocked here.
But yeah, the $40 price tag may play a part in me still picking it up and hoping it all finally clicks for me. But damn man....I couldn't even do much with a bow.

But still.....just cause I can afford the $40, doesn't mean I want to throw it away.
I have bought 6 games since I bought my 3DS 2 months ago, 3 of which I haven't even played yet.

Lol, you guys bash the TC and regard him as a troll just because he wants this on the vita. How sad, because while the controls are OKAY on the 3DS (not amazing just okay, but certainly not broken), playing MHFU was FANTASTIC on the vita as the second stick was heaven (and it was free too).

The Vita's not free and neither are its disgusting, proprietary $100 32GB memory cards

To be honest man, the bow is not a noob friendly weapon or an easy weapon by any means. This is because bows in the MH tend to be very weapon until you have it fully upgraded and is of the right element because bow is very dependent on element for damage. This means that you must have the bow element which is strong against the monster you hunt, so thunder against Plesioth etc. Also, armor skills play into it, having a skill that lessens stamina use or charges the bow quicker is almost a must. Finally, in order to use the bow effectively, you must figure out which level of charge does the most damage for the bow, and usually it is pierced because the arrow hits multiple times as it passes through the monster's body.

Thing is, you could buy a 3DS, a cpp, and the game, all for less than buying a vita.
