I am really good with hammer, moderate with the great sword (mostly for beating Tigrex), and little else. I know some creatures are going to be MUCH easier with something like a lance, but that means moving up another weapon tree, farming for monster bone L's that don't drop etc. How many weapons do you all recommend being good at, and what should be the other weapons for a hammer user such as myself? I imagine lance and something quick for the faster monsters.

You can hit pretty much anything on any monster and the tanky style of it is incredibly easy to learn and you can even get the two blocking skills with it to make you damn near invincible while learning
and learning bow or bowgun would give you a long range alternative --- "Me fail English? that's unpossible" -Ralph Wiggum
All the melee weapons except Greatsword (never interested me) and Hunting Horn (haven't tried it yet, though if I had people to play multi with I'd probably go for it more, as kind of a support weapon).
I mastered lance, hammer, SA, and SnS in Tri, and I'm rolling with Longsword, Dual Blades, Gunlance, and SA (again, because it's that awesome) in 3U.
I've never once used a bowgun, and I tried a bow but didn't like it - I used the Hunter's Bow II against Royal Ludroth while wearing Royal Ludroth armor, and holy crap did it take forever to kill... I might give it another shot sometime down the line, but right now I'm more focused on getting through the quests and upgrading my main weapons. --- Click here to take the idiot test. ~ Glaurungd ^uh i think your link doesnt work, u should learn HMTL ~MooMoo321
