Too much of the same, and there's no effort in the maps and it's a really slow game. Endgame did a pretty decent job of explaining why I don't like it.

Gaiden is fantastic. Most everyone who bashes it hasn't played it, because it's a huge step up from the original game. Yes, there's a (small) amount of leveling up required outside the main campaign, but I'll take that if it comes with great music, solid and fair challenge, some pretty excellent map design, buffed archers, branching promotions for villagers, etc. etc.

There is nothing wrong with FE1 either. Both are a bit dated, yes. Hardly unplayable by any means as long as you learn cope with the workings of the NES games. Newer gamers might need to get used to it, but if you learn to handle them, you will have blast

Definitely. You will appreciate the remakes more playing these first. In fact the series progression is wonderful if you spend the time to play them in release order (up to Thracia 776, at least!)

FE2's my least favorite, but i still found it extremely fun. There's a class loop you can abuse to create uber Villagers. >_>
