What is the point in not having any fun your first time through, There is plenty of time to do other playthroughs where you inbreed everybody to ubermench status.

Considering that there's semi-infite grinding right NOW (high level unit + bronze weapons + soloing the currently available DLC map and getting the 2 village items per clear takes care of any gold shortages you might run into), you can have fun and still max people out if you really wanna.
