Hello guys, I apologize if this is common knowledge but I have a question. If a unit doesn't have five skills at the time of child generation, does the child take the last skill in the list? Seems logical to me.

I'm a little confused about all this inheritance stuff as well.
It's like my Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattatas.

Correct. Last skill on list.

Of interesting note, if the child would normally have the skill due to the class they are assigned, the game moves up the list until they hit one the child doesn't already have.

MU married Tharja (Sorcerer). Was trying to pass on Hex (since I didn't have any unique skills to pass on, not min/maxing this playthrough).

Morgan's Chapter - Morgan shows up as a Dark Mage, already knowing Hex and the other skill (Anathema? Can't remember name...) So, it scrolled up Tharja's skill list to Vengeance and gave Morgan that.
