I like the support bonuses and conversations. Can the children go through these as well?

Yes, though mostly just with other children and their parents. There are a few exceptions, though.

As far as I'm aware, the children can only gain support with their parents, and the other children.

i think nah and lucina can support with tiki,but besides that,it's just the other second gen chars,their own parents an the avatar
