So I married Nowi off to Donnel... Not my greatest moment. If I kill off Donnel can Nowi remarry?

Married characters become unkillable - they just retreat off the map and remain unusable.

Only in classic. In casual they would still be usable.

Even on classic some units don't die - they're just too wounded to ever fight again. Typically these are characters too important to the plot, so their death would require a big rewrite.

Or just characters they feel wouldn't die. But on Classic you still can't use them again.
