So once again, archers aren't that good.

if you want a sniper you better slap Counter on it so it is actually dangerous at close range but yes for ones that dont have that option you are right

that wouldnt fix the problem people have with archers ; their generally poor enemy phase.

personally i think archers are fine, they're not going to run in and beast mode counter attack everything but they have their uses. Longbow/Double Bow (dat built in bowfaire) is definitely useful in a lot of situations and only they can use them.

As for a nest FE game; maybe the main character could be an archer.
A unique skill should be present for it to counter attack for melee.

Didn't Rangers back in FE8 automatically change their weapon from bow to sword if they got attacked at melee range?

No, I don't believe so. Enemies in FE4 can switch weapons at will. But you can't. -sigh-

Oh, well. At least that made the game harder.

I use Noire. As a bow knight, she like, literally does not ever get hit by anything, which completely ruins the fact that she rolls vengeance every single time she attacks. Literally.

Archers and snipers are more designed for support roles where they are paired up or sitting behind a tanky character where their high accuracy and proc rates can subdue ranged attackers that target them, or use their high skill to proc dual guard/attack consistantly. They are great for people that play defensively.
