I'm a Fire Emblem noob that needs help with reclassing.

I don't really think I'm going to change my classes around that much, but I do have a question. My first walk-through I didn't do any research so I could avoid spoilers as best as possible. For my 2nd walk-through, should I use the 2nd seal to reclass units at level 10 (get all the skills) to another lower class, get those skills, then go to the advanced class?

Like with Vaike: I go from level 10 Fighter to level 10 Barbarian to Berserker.

I'll probably have some other questions too, but basically I'm just wondering from your guys' experience, what/when should I reclass/promote my units? Which ones did you guys (from experience) find was helpful?

EDIT:

Also, if I switch, for instance, and Archer to a Wyvern Knight, I can't go back to a Sniper, can I? It would just really help if you guys could tell me what worked for you. I sooo don't know what I'm doing.

If you're looking for stats, wait until 20. If you're looking for a particular promotion to end up at, either promote, reach level 10 and change into that advanced class, or change from a base to that advanced class's base and promote.

So either:
Fighter -> Barbarian -> Berserker
or
Fighter -> Warrior (preferably hit 15 for Counter) -> Berserker

Generally, you want to reclass early only when you're rushing to acquire a certain skill (i.e. Galeforce) or you're hitting stat caps for a class (a capped stat becomes green-colored). Timing reclassings in accordance with the pacing of the game is also valuable but it takes significant experience with the FE you're playing to pull that off.

Waiting until Lv. 20 is usually prudent so that you can get the best endgame stats possible and get as few EXP reductions as you can.

As for *what* to reclass to, a comparison of a few classes (for this game):

Sorcerer > Everything
Paladin > Great Knight (not 100% on this one, but it's usually the best path for Sully)
Assassin > Swordmaster
Dark Knight > Sage
Dark Flier > Falcoknight

EDIT: Also, Wyvern Lord > Griffon Rider

Okay yeah for some reason I didn't even think about promoting then using 2nd seal. Right now I'm just sitting at Chapter 17 with 6 2nd seals and not knowing what really to do with them.

Do you find yourself switching classes often? I only have planned so far to switch Vaike and Lissa. I feel that for a lot of the characters it's only natural that they stay where they're at or switch to something close.

I also am curious about Chrom. Could I, for instance, switch him to a Cavalier at level 10, then promote him directly to a Great Lord? Or would I have to go to Paladin then back to Great Lord through 2nd seal (which doesn't seem worth it)?

I just feel like it's weird to switch a lot of the people because their personalities and looks already match up with the class that they are, plus I might switch them to something using an unfamiliar weapon or something using magic when their strength is clearly higher.

Okay, thanks for the info (you too, MetalKirbyPlush). Right now I am just waiting until level 20 to promote, and I haven't used any 2nd seals and probably won't. I'm just experimenting and getting the best variety of classes right now so I have (or will have) almost 1 of everything.

I've also been hearing Galeforce a LOT. Does that let you move again and everything like the Dancer does, or does that mean you have to stay where you're at put you can attack, switch items, etc?

It can be a good idea at times. For My Unit (MU), you may want to become a Grandmaster to get the Ignis skill, which is quite useful (I did this myself).

Some units are horrible in their regular classes. Frederick and Panne come to mind. For almost all players, reclassing MU is typical because you can really tailor the character to whatever class you'd like to have.

I also am curious about Chrom. Could I, for instance, switch him to a Cavalier at level 10, then promote him directly to a Great Lord? Or would I have to go to Paladin then back to Great Lord through 2nd seal (which doesn't seem worth it)?

I'm honestly not sure, although I understand from personal experience and community consensus that it's important for Chrom to get both of his Great Lord abilities before potentially going a Paladin route.

If you kill an enemy while having Galeforce, you basically get the dance effect.

Well from Shadow Dragon, the only other FE game I played, I learned not to use promoted units from the start, and Dragons/Beasts (stone-users) aren't good in the long-run, so I didn't use either of them and probably don't plan to because I want to keep a small(er) selection of characters for my "Hard" run. And it sounds like I might just want to keep Chrom as a Lord until Level 20 for the best stats. I don't think I'll want to change him anyway because I know you can change Lords in other games and I'm just weird like that.

Lol, that definitely is a good reason to try and get the Galeforce by any means necessary.
