My first Fire Emblem game. Casual or Classic?

#11GrandpriestPosted 5/18/2013 10:02:44 PM
tl;dr version:

Classic Normal/Hard = If anyone dies, it's gameover.
Casual Lunatic = Gives a new feel to the game, and it makes me feel like I'm playing chess. I can lose pieces as long as my two kings are safe.

On a side note ...

Classic Lunatic/Lunatic+ = You have to be a lunatic to do this. You either grind your way to winning (which defeats the purpose of the difficulty), you are way too lucky in that the enemies somehow don't hit you while you hit them, or you pull your hair out when you realize that you will be losing some people if you play it without grinding.

Hard/Classic or Lunatic/Casual are likely the best difficulties if you have experience playing tactical games.

Classic forces a completely different mentality and tactics, and is my preferred playing mode.

TC I just bought a 3DS and this game a week ago I have never played a Fire Emblem game before anyways I picked Hard and Classic it's a big challenge for sure but now that I'm a bit into the game it's so rewarding and honestly I think if I wouldn't have picked those 2 options this game wouldn't have been nearly as fun

Either someone hates people who suggest Classic too much, or doesn't hate politicians enough.

Possibly the Kellam of the FE:A boards.
But no one notices enough to make it official...

Classic mode for sure. If this is your first FE game I would suggest starting out on normal and switching to hard if a few chapters in you find the game too easy. You can grind off random encounters if you want (although I think FE games play better without grinding) to make hard more manageable for a first time player. (You can also level up 1 unit and have that unit solo the game :/ )

For your first time.

Classic.

I play on casual when I do replays mostly because I'd rather just take the game at a leisure pace and not stress so much over my units when I've already completed the game before.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to play on casual mode after reading everything. I like a challenge, but not too much of a challenge. I'm more of a casual gamer who enjoys something relaxing, and I definitely don't wanna soft-reset several times on later chapters.

However, I also decided to play on Normal mode and am now regretting it. Even though I'm new to Fire Emblem, I'm not completely moronic when it comes to tactical games, and the fact that I'll be able to let my units "die" without permadeath makes it even easier. I'd like to switch the difficulty up to hard, but I don't think I'm able to do that without completely starting over. There doesn't seem to be an option to change the difficulty.

I'm only on chapter 5 and I may consider restarting to increase the difficulty.... but I'm feeling kinda lazy. Maybe I'll just keep playing on Casual/Normal and hopefully it won't be too easy for my first FE game. Just to confirm, is there a way to increase the difficulty without having to start a new file? Maybe I just missed it.
