the best example of FE being difficult is FE12 prologue

...FE12 has a hard prologue, and was that on Lunatic or something? Cause I could swear that anything below Lunatic was too easy to get through in FE12.

Blazing Sword wasn't that hard. Neither was Radiant Dawn.

Not sure how you could say either games are that hard unless you went out of your way to use units who aren't very good like Rolf, Wil, etc., that much. Among other things.

Funny that you'd say that considering HHM + ranking > anything localized. FE10 HM is runner up for being the hardest and I'm just going to be lazy and not add on to what Model_Omega said since you're simply going to skidpost terrible logic just for the sake of some sort of defence so you don't look wrong, which you are.

Ranked HHM is artificial difficulty. Of course a game is going to be harder when you're letting some of the best weapons go unused and basically can't use a few good units because it means you spent too much money to hit an arbitrary funds ranking. And FE10 is not hard at pretty much any point outside of Suck Brigade chapters and maybe 4-E-3, especially if you opt to use the broken as s*** Laguz royals they toss in your lap towards the end of the game- I'm pretty sure Tibarn could solo his and Elincia's chapters and barely be in danger of getting hurt. Ike and Nailah can probably do the same for their chapters, so just toss Haar on Team Belly Shirt and him and Naesala can destroy everything there with minimal effort. Even 4-E-3 isn't too bad if you come equipped with enough anti-dragon equipment.

Take Lunatic mode. Remove Pair Up. Remove infinite leveling (i.e. remove Second Seals). Remove DLC grinding. Difficulty achieved.

Before we propose suggestions on ways to make FE harder, we must first establish why the series is easy/has artificial difficulty.

The most glaring offenders are:

1. High emphasis on probability (both in combat and level ups)
2. Over emphasis on stats over classes
3. The strength of the Speed stat
4. Highly predictable AI
5. Easily abusable OP Items (e.g. Warp, Rescue, Weightless Nosferatu in FE:A, Legendary weapons in FE4, etc.)
6. Easily abusable OP units (e.g. Sedgar, Laguz royals)
7. Significant player exclusive combat advantages (e.g. pair up, movement stars, etc.)

That's probably an incomplete list, so feel free to add to it. Unfortunately, addressing some of those issues (namely 1-3), may also lead to a game fundamentally different than Fire Emblem, so maybe they should reboot it or something? Spiritual successor perhaps?

2. Over emphasis on stats over classes

What does this even mean? Do you want more classes to have a niche ability or something, like stealing, torch utility, and opening chests for thieves? Each class inherently has a niche because of their stats. Caliviers are balanced and mobile, knights are meatshields, myrmidons are (in theory) the unit that always hits and always doubles, ect.

Intresting post but maybe not.

1) Could be adressed by the growth curve thing from Tear Ring Saga, where if a unit grows past average it gets less and if it grows below average it gets more. We can't entirely remove luck from combat, but I think most FEs don't have so much that it gets annoying and unfair (other than FE:A Lunatic and FE6 HM)

2) Tharcia tried to fix that, did it work? I admit later games might have raised characters growths too high.

3) I dunno, if the enemy has decent stats, I don't see how speed makes things too easy. Though lowering the stats like Tharcia might help solve the problem (because its other to get +4 if the is cap is 20 rather than 60)

My major complaint is bosses. They are almost always less threatening than normal enemies due to being much more easy to manipulate. The main excpetions that i can think of are Fe6 (mainly because of hit rate issues) and Generaly the first two prepromote bosses you face (outside of PoD, where they are still cake.)
