if you marry two characters when they arent as strong, will the child's caps be lower and not be as strong than if their parents are trained to the max, or does it not matter how much the parents are trained and the child will always be as strong either way

Caps are predetermined, but weaker parents will affect current stats.

meaning caps will always stay the same for that character and nothing can change it (excluding limit breaker) for everyone playing?

Caps are determined in combination of the class + parents

i see... this is beside the topic but does aptitude increase the caps too or does aptitude just save you time raising your stats even though you can just grind

It increases growth rates by 20% (so theoretically, an extra stat across the board every 5 levels).

The only skill that raises stat caps is Limit Breaker (all caps +10).

Aptitude just makes it more likely you'll get a point in a stat upon level up. Notably, if the growth exceeds 100% you'll actually have the ability to get +2 on a level up.

The parents' modifiers determine a child's class caps, while their stats at the moment you enter the child's recruitment paralogue determine the stats they start with. Meaning the parents' stats do not affect class caps, but do affect whether or not they are combat ready upon recruitment.

On another note, this stat inheritance rule is in full effect for the Future Past as well, meaning you can always grind the parents then go back to Future Past to make it easier on you.
