People keep claiming normal is too easy but I don't believe them.

No spoilers.

I don't know what difficulty to play on. Everyone claims online that Normal is way too easy. But people say Hard is intense for most of the game.

I've played some of the GBA Fire Emblems. I never beat any of them them because they all were too hard for me. Even using guides telling you exactly where to move, my party still would get one shotted later in the game. I don't understand the advanced concepts behind grinding or fighting strategy.

I don't want to completely destroy the game but people online always act like harder difficulties are a cakewalk. And then you play them as a casual and get destroyed and have no fun at all.

Are people over-exaggerating how easy "Normal" is?

After playing hardest modes available for all games across the border, it isn't the game's difficulty that's the problem. I can claim that all game modes easy because I have developed solid startegies because I've been exposed to so much of "the same thing."

This being said, I find that hard is very comparable to other game mode's normal mode.

If I had no experience in fire emblem whatsoever, then I feel like normal could be seen as just that--a normal mode.

Normal is actually very easy. You fight less and much weaker enemies, plus in chapters where the enemies call in reinforcements, they come at the end of their turn, where on Hard/Lunatic, they come at the beginning of it. And because of people who use the water trick then complain about how easy the harder difficulties are. But if Lunatic is easy with tricks like that, then why don't they just NOT use them and play the game like it was supposed to be played?

The main difference between Normal and Hard in this game is that on Normal, enemies can't spawn and move in the same turn.

Honestly, I think Normal is too easy, but there was certainly a time when I couldn't beat the GBA Fire Emblems, either. There's no shame in playing the game on Normal if you feel like you need to (unless you try to brag about it, of course).

I don't want to steamroll the game though. That would be even less fun that the game being too hard. I just want an accurate indicator of the game's overall difficulty for a casual player who isn't good at tactics or grinding.

Steamroll, slight difficulty or game-over fest: your choice.

for new players normal can be a decent challenge, at the same time if they learn quickly they find that normal is far too easy it really depends on how fast you learn, for people who've played fire emblem before and already know how it works, for the most part normal is no challenge at all.

Normal might be a challenge for you but I don't know how you play, as for general tips, if your units are dying so much like you say its either bad luck with stats, poor leveling distribution to characters, or reckless playing. never put your units out in the open unless you can probably survive, look at your units stats, look at the stats of your enemy, don't use every character because you won't be able to use every character without extensive grinding.

And for the most part, guides don't work in fire emblem games well, you can generally follow strategies but if you haven't noticed, you don't gain the same stats every time (without rng abuse) every playthrough will be different because your units gain stats at a random rate. following guides exactly won't do you any good

Hard is only intense if you don't pair up or try to use everyone.

I'm playing on hard and so far MU and Chrome stomp through everything. Granted I got pretty good defense growths and pairing them with units to further increase defense is insane.
