People keep claiming normal is too easy but I don't believe them.

The weapon triangle the game refers to gives a hit and possibly attack bonus to the side with the advantage, while subtracting the same amount of hit/damage from the disadvantageous side. The actual strength of the effect is based on the weapon rank of the character with the advantage.

E or D: +10 hit / -10 hit
C: +15 hit / -15 hit
B: +10 hit and +1 attack / -10 hit and -1 attack
A: +15 hit and +1 attack / -15 hit and -1 attack

In practice axes beat everything later on since you can boost hit so much with supports, but in general the system tries to get you to handle the hard-hitting axes with evasive sword-users and largely fails at it since a 30% chance to die is pretty much unacceptable.

Also, during a non Weapon Triangle Neutral engagement, the losing side also loses their Weapon Rank Bonus. [I.E. Lance a Sword [both at A-rank] The Lance user gains 15 Hit and 1 attack. The Sword User loses 15 Hit and 4 attack. Sword an Axe? +15 Hit/1 ATK for the sword, -25 Hit/2 Atk for the Axe]. A 25 Hit penalty on an Axe is pretty nasty. Coupled with the fact that Axes tend to be on classes with low SKL, and Swords on ones with high SPD... >_<;;]

Both normal and hard are extremely easy. It's probably because I'm a lover towards tactical games. Lunatic is a bit steep off the bridge for being hard, so the developers left a major gap in the difficulty.

The last game has Maniac before Lunatic. So yeah, in a sense they did leave a gap in the difficulty.

I was playing on Normal, but after a couple of hours I realized that with any grinding or side activities, my guys were going to outscale the content very quickly, especially since I bought a couple of the DLCs, including the Golden Gaffe pack.

I think if you played straight through the chapters while ignoring everything else, normal with classic rules would be a fairly stiff challenge, but any digression into DLC, paralogues or spotpass bonuses will outscale the content.

My thinking is that, if you want to do this stuff, hard difficulty with casual rules may be better than normal mode with classic rules, and normal mode with casual rules is probably kind of a joke.

Ugh.... I don't understand this game.

I'm grinding wireless Bonus Box missions and I'm using the "Mist" encounter where her party is level 1. Yet my entire team is barely scratching her units even though some of them are triple the level of the units with iron weapons.

My weakest units can't even do damage against her grunts even though they are the same level.

I found Hard to be a reasonable difficulty, but at the same time, I have played a lot of other Fire Emblem games, so I knew what I was doing from the start. I doubt I could have beaten Hard without grinding on my first try if I had never played anything in the series before. That said, I have played Normal just to see what it's like, and it's laughably easy. I doubt I would have struggled with it, even if I was new to the series. I'd probably recommend Hard, but don't feel afraid to grind XP if you get stuck, it is harder than most of the other games in the series on the standard difficulty, just because the enemies get their reinforcements at the beginning of their turn, which is pretty brutal.
