I'd say it's up there with Uematsu/Mitsuda stuff.
So yeah, it's great.

Well I still think that Uematsu and Mitsuda's best works are in a league of their own. FF 6, 7 and 9, and xenogears and chrono cross had so many powerful and awesome melodies, and such a flair for finding EXACTLY the right track to fit such or such specific atmosphere. If you tried to take FF9 or chrono cross' music and fit it into a different game, it just wouldn't feel right. Songs like Terra, star tower, tower of ruins, another arni or lindblum can almost make you picture the places they accompany even if you've never played the game.

Ah, I see now. In regards to boss themes, I find that Fighting to the End and That Person's Name Is are pretty freaking awesome so I don't see your complaints there. For military-ish songs, Land of Civil War seems to have a good mix of other instruments in it. If you have specific examples, feel free to mention them otherwise again, I don't see it.

Never said anything about Xenoblade's quality by the way, might want to re-read my comment. Anyways, my point was that Xenoblade is very much alike to FFXII. I forgot to mention this in my last post but the problem with your comment about repeating certain melodies is that a lot of JRPGs out there do such things with regards to their soundtracks.

I'll make sure to listen again to some tracks as soon as I can, it's been a while since I listened to part of a gamerip.

Yep xenoblade and FF XII both obviously share the same genre and game design philosophy, but the main difference is that the first does pretty much everything better than its counterpart, aside MAYBE from the architecture and art direction of the cities.

I know that a lot of RPGs, and videogame and film scores overrall tend to recycle their melodies a lot, but bravely default, on top of that, has a lot of songs that are based on a certain 10-15 seconds segment, that's repeated over and over with only some variations along the way. I'm no music expert, but it seems to me that when you've found a good melody, you have to expand on it and make it evolve during the song, not repeat the same few notes ad nauseam. The battle theme is a perfect example of that, as it's based on the same 10 seconds segment from beginning to end, with no evolution whatsoever. I'm kinda affraid that ingame, the music of BD could turn out to get old rather quickly, especially since there's not that many songs to begin with.

What I think the BDFF soundtrack succeeds in having is quality over quantity. Xenoblade has 90 tracks or so, and the vast majority are excellent, but there are some like Aegir, Irregular Bound, Monado Reacts, Uneasiness, Ether Mine, etc that I don't really care about at all. While this is true for pretty much every soundtrack out there, I feel that about a MUCH lower percentage of the BDFF soundtrack. It's only 46 tracks long, but almost all of the tracks have great melodies.

For a handheld soundtrack, it sounds amazing too.

It's true that from what I've heard, BD has no purely atmospheric track, which is great. But xenoblade has very few of them too, maybe 10 or so, some of them being actually pretty efficient (though uneasiness is just super bland), which leaves tons of great stuff. That's the great thing, in polls asking people for a top 20 of their favourite pieces from xenoblade, almost everyone will come up with something different ! I mean, there's so many fantastic pieces that some gems like prison island or tephra caves are systematically overlooked.

BTW, there are plent of great handheld soundtracks, deep labyrinth sounds great just to name one :)

I was listening to the link, and various others, but I couldn't find any songs. There were some nice instrumentals like "Wicked Flight" and "Four Legends", but I couldn't find the songs.

Links?

That Youtube user has a playlist of the entire BD soundtrack.

Sorry, maybe it's because English isn't my first language, but I think I'm missing something here.

I looked at the entire playlist, all I could find are instrumentals. I found no songs.

Songs have singing. Without singing, it's not a song. It's a composition or instrumental.

Did the OP say "Song" meaning "Track"?

Sorry, I'm confused. If there's a song with lyrics, that I missed, please share a link.

Oh, I was saying "song" as a general way of referring to the game's soundtrack. I wasn't being specific. Sorry for any confusion.

Song usually means music with lyrics but song tends to be used interchangeably with instrumental.

Thanks for the clarification, it's an incredible soundtrack and I've listened to it several times now. I did find one song, Track 46; "Ballad Moving Toward Hope". And it's really amazing!

I'm beyond excited to see this game get a North American release.

Soundtrack is cool but i think Ys has far better transitions in some segments overall.

also that Other song Serpent eating the ground feels Very legend of heroesy particularly Ao no kiseki`s Last boss track for large segments.

That said after listening to more of it im really digging it some of it sounds pretty sweet. I really like the art style in the game to but im not digging the Chibi in game graphics to much (reminds me of FF ugh)

We all know they technically aren't "songs", but does it really matter to you that much if someone used that term?
