Monster Hunter 4
Why we are disappointed and refutations to all recurring arguments.

Do you also hate the GS charge attacks, (useful) skill system and farm? These are all "Casual" elements that have been added since MH1. Please do me the favor of forgetting I said "casual." I, myself, am a casual player. I simply don't have the time to be anything more. At the same time, I have devoted a disproportionate amount of my game playing time to Monster Hunter and I have developed opinions about what make it great. The items that you mentioned are all beneficial and make the game a deeper and more enjoyable experience. I'm sure that there are others out there who would disagree with me on that, though, just as I disagree with those who think the GoW style will make it deeper and more enjoyable. But I also don't think that Capcom just threw those features in because there were six other more popular games that had a greatsword with a well integrated charging system, armor skills, and item farms. --- Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.--TOOL, "Right in Two"
You haven't even played the game yet and you're already setting yourself up for a powerful bias. "They are deviating from the unique gameplay" because I saw a 30 second trailer of Hunter running wildly and doing parkour off mountains. As I've said before (to you in your own topic, btw), there is no reason for us to think that all that parkour will not be in the game. In the trailer we all saw, that was the only new aspect that they could possibly be trying to showcase. The graphics were obviously early stage and the weapons and monsters were all old. This could turn out to be a fantastic game. I kinda doubt it, but it's possible. That doesn't change the fact that all that wall climbing and monster riding is a deviation from what makes Monster Hunter different. If they want to become Dragon's Dogma, they may just increase their sales, but I'd rather play MH than Dragon's Dogma with a Rathalos instead of a Griffin. --- Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.--TOOL, "Right in Two"
You think GoW is more popular than MH? You think anything is more popular than MH? MH in Japan is at Pac-Mania levels right now. I guarantee you nothing Capcom is doing to the series is to bring in a larger audience. That's what's wrong with all of these asinine f***ing arguments, they contradict each other. The same people who are saying this is the end of MH are the same ones assuming this won't even get localized. If it's not getting localized, what broader market are they trying to appeal to? If they've given up on the West, than they've achieved almost complete market saturation with this title. You might as well say Levis are trying to make jeans more accessible. Whether or not Capcom makes a real effort to break MH in the West, they're not going to screw with their golden goose. It's against the very nature of the company. This is the most conservative dev team in the most conservative company. Do you people want to know what this "parkour" stuff is actually probably for? Livening up the approach and retreat from monsters. --- I'm not a wizard or anything. I mean, I own a robe and a wizard hat, but for entirely different reasons. --profroche
That doesn't change the fact that all that wall climbing and monster riding is a deviation from what makes Monster Hunter different. This, from the thread I posted a few days back: The cinematics are there to dress the gameplay, which will more than likely remain consistent with all of the notions of MH you have come to know and love. Here are some really blatant facts you should absorb, quickly: - Trailers are meant to be glossy. Don't expect the whole game to consist of scaling walls. - If gameplay elements were introduced that involved scaling walls, big f***ing whoop. You're still going to get to hunt your monster. - If you honestly think they're turning this into a platformer, you... you know what? No. Just no. --- Cyrus is hunting Demon's Souls. PSN: Puhgy Lost Odyssey is worth playing, if you're into JRPG's.
You think GoW is more popular than MH? You think anything is more popular than MH? MH in Japan is at Pac-Mania levels right now. I guarantee you nothing Capcom is doing to the series is to bring in a larger audience Maybe you're right. But then again, why wouldn't they want a larger audience? And to do that, why not take popular aspects of other popular games (albeit not AS popular as MH (maybe))? For all I know, the people of Japan do not see this as "selling out," although I'm sure that there are those who do. Do you people want to know what this "parkour" stuff is actually probably for? Livening up the approach and retreat from monsters. Again, you may be right. However riding on the monster and fighting it from the wall that you shimmied up and around don't really deal with getting to or from a monster. Slashing from the wall would be very helpful versus vespoids though. Here are some really blatant facts you should absorb, quickly: Dok, I feel like maybe you need to look up the terms "blatant" and "facts." --- Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.--TOOL, "Right in Two"
- Trailers are meant to be glossy. Don't expect the whole game to consist of scaling walls. - If gameplay elements were introduced that involved scaling walls, big f***ing whoop. You're still going to get to hunt your monster. These are both factual statements o_o;; It's a trailer, but you're jumping to numerous conclusions watching it. And at the end of the day, MH4 is still about hunting monsters in the same fashion you have been for several generations. Except this time, PERHAPS with a bit of gloss, I don't want to JUMP TO ANY CONCLUSIONS or anything. --- Cyrus is hunting Demon's Souls. PSN: Puhgy Lost Odyssey is worth playing, if you're into JRPG's.
you're jumping to numerous conclusions watching it It's called deductive reasoning. Everything about this trailer seems odd from the timing of its release to the content it showcases. Of course we will have to wait and see where it goes, but there is no reason for me to think I am wrong. If I am wrong, I will be glad and will happily retract all of my negative posts and thoughts. If it turns out that I am not wrong, please come back to these posts so that you can refresh your memory and use the lessons learned here when they release the MH5 trailer at the same time as 4G. --- Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.--TOOL, "Right in Two"
"Only problem I see here is that it is not pre-rendered visiuals. That is a real time tech demo." Pre-rendered was the wrong word. Scripted/staged is better. I didn't mean it was supposed to be anything like the CGI sequences at the start of each game, just that the chase, climbing, and Rathalos battle were all choreographed and it wasn't a representation of how the hunting will be in MH4. Just a showcase of some of the new features which will be introduced. Also, someone mentioned the hunter "brutally killing" Rathalos after jumping on its' back, which absolutely didn't happen. He latched on for a few moments and stabbed it a few times with a small knife (presumably the same one used for carving), and dismounted upon grounding the wyvern. Keep in mind, that while it did get grounded, it didn't seem to be significantly worse for wear afterwards. There are plenty of more "brutal" attacks in the game already, and the comment about "adult activities" with Rathian makes no sense at all. >_> --- FFXI - Ruinaru - Carbuncle FFXIV - Forofor Nahtfund - Saronia
Chrome_Ada posted... Stuff. I don't think anyone's arguing that Capcom's sense of timing was bizarre. I can't recall any other time in which a sequel and the sequel to that sequel were announced simultaneously. --- Signature will not change until my signature changes. Started last time I changed my signature.
Tsk, wasn't bizarre. Stupid no editing on this account --- Currently playing:Some AAA title that was just released and everyone is playing, and some other games I'm not actually playing. |
