First of all, despite the issues everyone has been complaining about, I've been loving this game. It's nice to play my favorite action game in a handheld iteration (it may be the 4th time I've bought this game, but it's worth it).
I'm curious about a theoretical situation. I know that a game is meant to be "linked" to a playstation vita console once used and this prevents the same game cartridge from being played on another system. You can wipe the game data when put in the new unit, which essentially makes it a fresh copy of the game on the other system. This helps to prevent people from using already completed game saves to do stuff, yada yada. I get that.
I'm just curious about what would happen if my Vita were to ever brick. I'm sure any saves on my memory card would be able to get transferred to a new Vita, but what about the ones that save to the game card itself (like NGSP)? It seems like if I ever was forced to get a new unit, I would also be forced to completely start these games from scratch. Is there some form of way to back up my game saves or transfer the unit ID from one Vita to another?
SQUATS AND MILK!!
Sony is pretty consistent about linking save games to PSN account, so it's pretty likely as long as you use the same account there won't be any issue with your save games.
