DLC milking...over here a lot of us go lolnope and won't buy it, but I guarantee most of the Japanese players bought all of it, because that's just how games in Japan work...you know lots of people over there buy all the Neptunia and Xillia DLC and that's hundreds of extra dollars...they wouldn't continue to do it if it wasn't profitable, it's just not profitable as much on the non-JP side.

Idk if DLC makes THAT much money though....even if half the 500.000 people bought , lets say half, of the DLC it wouldn't be that huge a profit. Sure six figures but not anywhere near a million.

The thing is, a majority of the DLC costumes require no effort to make at all. Most of them are existing costumes except it's just recolored or on a different character.

So let's say even if only half do purchase it, it would still just be free profit for TN along with the normal sales they already made for the game. It's a win win situation for them.

This is true but the overall companies standings are so low. They are even below S E and they fell off real hard. They really don't have alot to bank on outside japan. You think they would have treated NG and DOA with more care since those are more world wide brands. should be intresting seeing how they transition to next gen.

I totally disagree with this as I think SE is absolute garbage now, but I do agree that TN is definitely not the same as before.

Next gen is going to be worse for every company. DLC like no tomorrow and don't forget banking on those mobile games.

Look up current standings for top publishers in japan then see how low Tecmo is. They really are not in other businesses like Sega or SE. and they don't have alot of IPs to make games from just the same japanese centric ones. Hack n slash games are like there yearly sports game and it gets them the money they need but not enough to top the other publishers.

I would thought DOA would have been treated better since they can milk this more if they do it right not just throw another game out after 100 bucks worth of DLC.

It's a effort/cost to profit ratio that matters. It literally almost cost them nothing for many costumes because they're just doing palate swaps and recycling costumes. In 3D games that's fairly easy to do.

New costumes isn't the hardest thing to do either, just ask anyone who mods PC or 360 games.

So yeah, minimal effort, maximum profit is how DLC works. I wouldn't be surprised if DLC is more profitable than the actual game

Yeah, the money isn't made only in the sales, it's made in the cost and the sales together...since the cost is very little and for some costumes zero, the profits are quite high.

Having a lot of IP isn't always a plus. Hell...just look at the financial loss for SE for their last fiscal year. I have a hard time believing that either Sega or SE is doing well. I don't know how they're in Japan, but here in the west, everyone consider both companies to be dead or dying.

Can you provide a source for their standings? I'm curious how they're actually doing.

LOL! I never said SE was a great company I know they are pretty much dead but like sega they have other areas where they make money to offset at least a little of the problems but ya they are still screwed.

Side note did not know level 5 beat tecmo out after so many games they released and bombed.
