Wrapping up a few loose ends before I advance the story. I'm assuming it affects which one you recruit?

IT affects nothing aside from some equipment drops (stans gear vs butters gear) the story and lines and everything inside is even exactly the same just with the sides switched, dialog is the same)

Also Kyle is the OP choice of a partner

The only difference is in how the "Attack the School" quest plays out. If you choose Cartman, you team with his group and fight Stan and Kyle. If you side with Kyle, you fight Butters and Cartman.

Except that Stan have Sparky with him in combat. And chances are, Butters fights you by himself. Also, I think once you reached the enemy leader, you can still attack the one you sided with.

There is VERY little difference. Even all of the the dialogue is almost identical. Even at the point you choose to fight either Kyle or Cartman, Stan says "I cant belive this is even a choice". The only real difference to even think about is that whether you choose elves or humans determines whether you fight Stan or Butters, after you defeat them you can loot their weapon, which become obsolete quick.

And I assume the one you loot from Stan is better than the one you loot from Butters?

Stan's sword is superior, and is actually much more useful than it's stats make it seem. Butters Hammer is crappy, except maybe to a mage.

Butters Hammer hits 3 times but it's weaker than stan's sword and it's only bonus is +50 Shock(not many melee weapons add shock damage. if you add +50/100 Ice and +50/100 Fire it's one of the few weapons capable of all 3 elements, so consider this weapon for a mage.

Stans sword hits twice, causes bleed on perfect hits, and hits a column. It's strong as a multi-target debuffer instead of a raw power weapon, and could make the Al Gore fight a lot easier. With both a bleed +3 and bleed +2 attachment you can apply a full stack of 6x bleed to a column of enemies on a perfect hit. Or you can apply +1 bleed, gross out(attachment), and fire(attachment) all in one perfect hit.

I ended up going with Kyle, but I'm planning on multiple playthroughs, so it's not a big deal.

You could just reload a save from before choosing a side(assuming you made one).

I honestly am not sure as I was really "high" level when I got it. I literally was able to equip the "sweet katana" from jimbo's store after I got through the school. im one hitting enemies right now with it.
