Joel did right (ending spoiler)

#1Cobra1010Posted 7/10/2013 4:24:47 PM
What Joel did was right even though he never had the intention. He made the decision selfishly, sacrificing the hope to mankind for a daughter.

But if you look at it clearly, if the fireflies found the cure. The fireflies would surely benefit greatly from it. The cure would make them the rulers of mankind. They would gain this by having people trade expensively for the cure.

In the world they live in, I doubt they would just hand out free vaccines to any 'davids' or 'bills'.

Honestly, I'd have to know if the Fireflies gave Ellie a choice in the matter (I'd assume not because they found her unconscious).

If Ellie agreed to the procedure, then Joel was acting incredibly selfish. If they decided to kill her without her consent then Joel was justified.

When she wakes up in the car, she didn't even realize she had been changed into a hospital gown. Additionally Marleen tells Joel when HE wakes up that "it's what she would have wanted", not what she chose to do.

There's a lot of evidence that they never asked her.

It's pretty clear that the Fireflies gave Ellie no choice. She didn't even regain conciousness while in the hospital.
When she wakes up in the car, she doesn't even know they found the fireflies (unless she was lying to Joel, which is unlikely).

I came to the realization that because they never told Ellie that she would have to die for even a chance at a cure, that Joel did the right thing.

If Joel was in the right, he wouldn't have lied to her. Simple as that.

Only thing joel did wrong was killing that guy who was escorting him out. He was only doing this job, probably trying to make enough fireflies ration tickets to feed this family. Joel could have just let him live with two bullets in his spine. The rest he killed was okay because they were going to kill you.

The doctors, well the one with the scalpel kinda deserved to die. In these desperate times, you dont bring a melee weapon into a fight against a madman with tons of firearms who has just taken out like 20 people.

It doesn't matter what Ellie would want, she's only a 14 year old child, she has the right to live. Killing a child is morally wrong. So in that way Joel did right.
The Fireflies would probably greatly benefit if they could make a vaccin out of Ellie's brain. Maybe the whole of mankind would benefit. But how to feed all those people that benefit without large scale agriculture?

Midway between black and white is brown, shows the intelligence quotient of the average Joel fanboy.
