Why does everyone use Lars in this game?

I've seen him used so much that I'm probably going to drop him.

As a Lars main I hardly ever see him. Now the amount of Juns, Asukas, Kazuyas, Jins, Laws and Kings by far outweigh any other characters I've met online. Hardly even see Chreddy anymore. Dropping a character because people like him is a trivial reason to not play a character that clearly you like or have an interest in playing.

I view using a common character as a competitive disadvantage. Everyone already knows what to expect.

If you're good enough you'll be able to overcome that and win anyway. The surprise of using an unpopular character only works for one round at best vs experienced players. Then they'll figure you out.
