We always had Jam-Packed CoroCoros, Usually the games come in September, and they get 5 corocoros of coverage.

It doesn't mean there is less new content. The last 3 months before release are not when the bulk of the work gets done anyway. They probably are speeding up the release because 3DS has already been out for a year and there's no sense in an additional unnecessary 3 months of waiting time.
