Their Pokemon were released (Team Plasma actually hacked into the Storage System to release everyone's Pokemon at one point in the game), moved to the west part of Unova to escape the growing cold, and now they set out to fix what's wrong.

Then why do they suddenly have childhood rival which already has a Pokemon ahead of them? How could they store all Pokemon into their PC and not keep a Pokemon with them at all? Why did Hilda become Sailor Moon? Why do they look so happy and starry (which you can even see from their eyes)

the childhood rival wasnt in BW1 because he was 2 years younger than them, so he had to wait until BW2 to get his first pokemon.

they stored all their best pokemon in the PC and only had weak pokemon that they had just caught on in their party. then they were just like ok screw it and released all the weak pokemon they caught so they could just start from scratch.

hilda just took her hat off and got a new hair style. then she bought a tennis hat to show of her leia buns.

they look happy because gamefreak wont let them be sad.

his hair was always that long. it was just hiding in his hat.

hilda just felt like doing something different with her hair since tennis hats became the "in" thing in BW2
