I think it was Gen 2 where your mom would call you when she bought you something, and help you save money. She was my favorite.

Gen 2 mom. She is also the only mom in the series who stays useful throughout the entire game (buys you items, saves your money).

Let's see
Gen 1 Mom boots her 10 year old son out of the house without so much as a pair of running shoes
Gen 2 Mom uses her kids money to go shopping
Gen 3 Mom makes her kid ride in the back if a moving truck
Gen 4 and 5 ... I forget what they do. DS charger is missing -{
