You must be really lucky. I had to grind for a few levels in Victory Road, and even then, I was only lucky (on the third try) that I got Level 55 Empoleon in after a Giga Impact I couldn't put it up one-on-one because Brick Break or EQ would OHKO.
That has nothing to do with luck. Like I said, Priority moves and/or items, or just flat out stall

Since I always use a single pokémon I never had to grind. Still, I think if one would try to play the game with a full team of 6 it would be pretty hard to play without grinding on wild pokémon.

Nope, it's easy if you understand good movesets or just splurge on items. Only overleveled teams like Cynthia could present a challenge.

If B/W had more triple battles the game would be alot harder, Blaze Black showed me this
