First it was Steven, then it was Alder, and now it's Iris... Is this Gamefreak's way of making Champions specialize in a type but not be complete pushovers?

If so, then it seems Alder really is a Bug specialist and it's a mistake to consider him mixed.

Pseudo-spoilers for BW2
The non-Bug type Pokemon in Alder's team were just foreshadowing of which Gym Leaders from BW wouldn't be Gym Leaders in BW2 anymore sans the Striaton Trio. You've got a Bouffalant (Normal), Vanilluxe (Ice), and Druddigon (Dragon) for Lenora, Brycen, and Iris.
