The best non-auto-catch ball btw is Level ball, it tops out at 8x Catch rate if your level is 4 times+ that of what you are trying to catch, but that's only possible up to level 25 pokemon.

I think the official guide books are where that came from. Serebii's old DP item list says it decreases every five turns, as well.

The x5 effectiveness of Quick Ball basically means a turn 1 toss at a Full HP pokemon is slightly better than throwing a Great Ball at a pokemon at 1 HP. So its pretty awesome.

That's not necessarily true. At any given amount of HP less than the maximum, higher-level Pokémon are actually easier to catch than they would be at lower levels since the current-to-maximum HP ratio is lower.

EDIT: Just remembered you were talking about Quick Balls; assuming you threw one on the first turn, it would be the same chance since it would have max HP anyway...
