Gold and Silver
hugely extensive game.

what

you could beat kanto in 1 hour

Yeah it had 2 full regions and a megaton of area's to get through which granted now doesn't sound like much for the Gameboy/Gameboy Colour generation that was a remarkable accomplishment.

best- gen3
worst- gen2

I can agree with this. I sometimes think Gen 1 is the worst, but the remakes made up for it.

it doesn't mean much when like 70% of the areas were empty

you mean "Gen 3 is the best, Gen 2 is the worst"

This.

Gen 4 did some great things. But it suffered from Gen 2 syndrome in that the Pokemon were just...lackluster at times.

However, I praise Gen 4 for the Physical/Special split, one of the biggest and in my opinion, best changes to the gameplay of Pokemon. It allowed so many Pokemon to do so much more. Gen 4 also had some great characters, the Poketch was the best, and I loved the shiny nabbing Pokeradar.

Gen 2 doesn't do any of these things sadly. There's night/day, which is nice, and of course some much needed improvements from Gen 1, but that's kinda all it did. :/

As far as regions go, I prefer Hoenn over Sinnoh
As far as mechanics, Gen 3 gave us abilities and Gen 4 gave us the Physical/Special split, both important in todays games.
But Gen 4 had HG/SS. Hmm

Split Special in to Special Attack and Special Defense
Introduced Steel and Dark

I mean, those are important today, right? Lol

Gen IV, while it did adds new layers to the game (Such as Physical/Special split), it had a terrible region and characters that, if they were put in a horror movie, you would hope to die at every moment. But, HG/SS saved the gen from being as far down the series scale as it could be.

Gen III was beautiful

Opinion: Agreed

you got stuff backwards

HG/SS were the ones with a horrible region (and a nuked one) even if mt coronet was the most annoying cave ever

Call me a nostalgiawhore if need be, but I pretty much grew up with Silver version, and seeing everything remastered with HG/SS was one of the greatest things ever. And while I really dislike Gen IV Sinnoh Arc, maybe their remakes might be better. I just found that, in Sinnoh, I had no reason to explore; areas felt unfinished/unnecessary, trainers felt incompetent, and the landscape felt as though GameFreak had decided to take after Fallout in some areas of the region, and Kirby in others. It just. Doesn't feel right.
