I hated being stuck having Flash on my Raichu for the rest of my first game, so I decided not to use it the second time around. After beating the game the first time, and when I knew I was about to delete my data and start over, I first went back to Rock Tunnel and memorized the layout using Flash. Made it through with little problem without Flash on my second playthrough, this time using a Raichu that didn't waste a moveslot. (Yet, his moveset at the end of the game consisted of ThunderShock, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, and Thunder. I guess I didn't really think that one through...)
After that, I never used Flash in RBY again, except to piss off my friends during link battles. I used it again during my first playthrough of FireRed, but once again never needed it afterward.

Second time I had flash and went thru fine

I went to my blue, got a general idea of the path, then went thru it without flash |
