I blame my friend for Hyperbeam and the anime for Fire-Spin.

Hyperbeam isn't too bad, but since my friend kept raving about it being the strongest attack(back in R/B/Y) I pretty much taught it to everyone, even if they don't benefit from it.

Fire-Spin, cuz it's Fire-Spin...

BubbleBeam. I thought the fact it was owning everything had everything to do with the sheer power of the move and nothing to do with the overleveled Blastoise dishing it out. Then I taught it to a level 25 Vaporeon in another game. Cue the disappointment.

Oh, and Mega Punch. I still like the move, though, if only for nostalgia reasons, because it just screams "Generation I" to me.

Ah, Gen I, where most people had an Hitmonchan with Mega Punch and all three elemental punches.

In fairness, that was actualy not that bad(yeah i know that Chan has crap SpA but WE) moveset in gen 1 because Normal in gen 1 is like..... broken

Charizard with like Flamethrower Hyper Beam Mega Punch are actualy a good charizard becayse almost every good moveset is like, STAB, coverage, normal

I taught Hidden Power to all my Pokemon in Silver because it was an awesome mysterious move and I had no idea what it did other than unleashing my Pokemon's hidden potential on a hapless foe.

I did the same thing with Secret Power in Sapphire.

Foul Play.

I thought FINALLY, a good dark move, because I was dissapoint that Gen 5 had very few good new moves in term of POWER, and foul play seemed good.

Then came it's stupid added effect. MIght as well be better than 95 then. Stupid Gamefreak.

Hyperbeam and Firespin

Hyperbeam only because of its high power (I didn't learn about STABs until gen 3 or so) so I would always give stuff that, even if it was a bad choice.

As for firespin, the anime and card game made it look so amazing! Plus since it was a high level thing for chraizard as a kid back in gen 1 I just assumed it must be the best attack.

Fire Spin.

I remember it being so amazing in Gen 1, actually preventing the foe from doing ANYTHING.

Then Gen 2 hit and I was sad panda when the 'constricted' mechanics were changed, leaving Fire Spin and other similar moves inferior to their stronger brethren because their niche was made useless.

Good thing Gen IV kinda made up for that with Heatran and Magma Storm.
