I'm not entirely sure but I think I may have accidently released one or 2 of his pokemon. Is it possible to get them back or are they gone for good?

You released them? I doubt they can be caught again.

In b3/w3 you will be able to catch them again, but this time it will have your name as the OT.

A cloner on the trade board can give you replacements, I have all of N's Pokemon untouched, collecting dust on my PC's box 24, but I am full of trade and RNG requests, I won't be able to trade until next Monday, but believe me, it's worth it :)
