How screwed am I? I just beat the third gym. I know I can use Heart Scales at the Move Tutor, but how hard are Heart Scales to find? Should I just go catch another Magnemite and start leveling it?

Not screwed at all since Spark is technically stronger than Thundershock. Thunderbolt is the TM with 95 base power.

Just keep that one then replace spark when you can.

Dont let it evolve either as it will learn new moves quicker

The Move Relearner you're talking about is at the Pokémon World Tournament, and you're going to need Driftveil's badge to get there.

You could go for another Magnemite, or you could just rough it for another five levels and take on Electro Ball (Spark is at level 22, so it'll get Electro Ball before it first attempts to evolve since Electro Ball's level 27 and first attempt at evolution is level 30). Elesa does give out a damaging Electric-type move TM, but it's for Volt Switch and it forces you to switch out upon using it...

Um, no.

TC, your screwed. Spark may be stronger, but Magnemite has MUCH more Sp.Attk than Attack.

Base Sp.Attk? 95.
Base Attk? A whopping 35.

Yeah, but Thundershock is 40 power SPECIAL type. Spark is 65 power PHYSICAL type. My Magnemite's Sp Atk is 53, it's phys Atk is just 23. Massive difference. And IIRC you don't get the Thunderbolt TM til waaaaaaaaay later.

Spark: 65 base power, 30% chance of paralysis and 20 PP Physical
Thundershock: 40 base power, 10% chance of paralysis and 30 PP Special

Not too big a difference in the end to be honest.

Bro, you aren't getting what we're saying. Spark is powered off Magnemite's crap physical Attack stat. Even though Thundershock has less base power, it does much more damage b/c it's run off Magnemite's much beefier Sp Atk stat.

I personally thought he was referring to the increased paralysis chance evening it out slightly. Plus, the paralysis chance is good for a paralysed electro ball attack!

The paralysis chance still isn't that great. I'd be better off using Thunderwave for a guaranteed para and only slightly less dmg. Hmm. Since my Magnemite is a neutral nature anyway, I think I'll go try to catch a Timid one.
