It's natural for people to cherish things that are rare. It happens in real life all the time, we assign a lot larger value to things because of their scarcity even if what it is shouldn't be worth so much. For example take an unopened Pokemon red or blue version, it's value is in the hundreds of dollars even though all you are getting is a cardboard box with a game of antiquated technology in it. I like some shiny pokes better than others. Some are just a random pallete swap, while others are just pure awesomeness.
