Which one is the better version, or I guess also which one would have the greater diversity of Pokemon in conjunction with White?

If you have White it'd be best for you to get the correlating second game. Otherwise you'd end up with two Zekroms amd there'd be no continuity in terms of environments and aesthetic.

If you have White, you're supposed to play White 2 in order to continue the story.
