Two questions from someone returning to Pokemon:

#1Igor115Posted 2/22/2013 7:23:11 PM
My searches weren't producing helpful results, so I have two questions:

1. Should I bother playing B/W 1 before playing 2?

2. If YES, should I match versions (e.g., B1 then B2) or should I mix it up (W1 then B2)?

Thanks!

1. No.
2. N/A

You're welcome.

I enjoyed playing both, but it's up to you if its worth it, there are obviously a great number of similarities between the two.

Doesn't matter which versions though.

You could just use Bulbapedia if you want the back story. There are some characters who play roles in the story that you won't see the importance of, but nothing critical. I was dumb and traded in black with over 500 pokemon and now i started with black 2.

I personally liked playing both 1 and 2, though 2 is clearly the superior version. You don't miss out on much story-wise, though it will give you access to a few legendaries that are unobtainable in 2, so basically, it's really only just up to you on whether or not you want to give it a go.

Since no one else really answered it, though, if you do get both 1 and 2, you probably should match versions. In Black, you catch a Reshiram, whereas in Black 2, you have the opportunity to get Zekrom, and vice versa for White / White 2. If you're only going to get one of each version, then matching colours is the only way outside of trading with someone else that you'll get both Zekrom and Reshiram.

IMO i prefered not matching versions just because i prefer the exclusive non legends more then the legends. and personally i prefer black 1 over white 1 and white 2 over black 2 by a fair bit. i liked black 1s black city and liked whites themeing more.

Getting both is really only necessary to understand the story and get both Reshiram and Zekrom. (the main legends) Otherwise, here are the advantages and disadvantages (if you're getting a 1 and a 2) of each option:

Different (W and B2, or B and W2)

+get all Unova version-exclusives
-which dragon a character has swaps between games
-Don't get both legendaries.

Same

-Don't get all Unova version-exclusives
+Get both legendaries
