Can Latios fill in well on a Sun team?

#1RPGman1Posted 3/11/2013 6:46:10 PM
I'm currently trying to get a Timid 31 speed IV Latios. (It happened once, but the Sp. Atk was only about 12.)

This is horrifically boring, so I figured that I'd take a break to ask if Latios can fill out a space effectively on a Sun team for coverage sake.

Considering he covers most fire-type pokemon's Ground and Water weaknesses, and Grass pokemon's Fire weakness, I'd say yes, he can find good synergy with Sun teams with plenty opportunities to switch in and make some mess.

Without Hidden Power Fire, not really because his main coverage move is Surf which will be extremely weak in the sun. You could try Thunderbolt instead of Surf but it's not as effective.

You could try a choice specs set with Draco Meteor/Thunderbolt/Psyshock/Dragon Pulse but Thunderbolt only provides neutral coverage on steels (barring Skarmory) while Surf or Hidden Power Fire hit some important ones like Heatran, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Jirachi, Scizor and Metagross super effectively.

Latios can fit on almost any team well.

Only a Pokemon with Mold Breaker or an equivalent ability can hit Heatran with a Fire Type move and hope for it to work.

HP Fire will only activate Heatran's Flash Fire ability

I would say not so much because Latios often carry both Surf and Hidden Power for excellent coverage alongside its Dragon move, and Surf's power gets halved in the sun. You could use a different special move in place of it though I suppose. Nothing really hits the aforementioned Heatran quite like Surf though.

Calm Mind

Might as well be using Latias, as she's better at that.

And why would you use Calm Mind and Draco Meteor together?

Latias is better
