If it's pure Flying, it becomes normal, otherwise it just loses its Flying type

A trickier question: if Rotom-S somehow learned Roost and used it, would it lose its immunity to ground moves or keep it?

Wait a minute, why would it become normal? It would get a weakness to fighting and immunity to ghost, both of which are illogical since Tornadus is pure Flying.
There are no contradictions in the Bible.

It becomes Normal because that's how the game is coded to work if Roost is used by a pokemon that is pure Flying type, regardless of any logic.

Huh. I didn't know that. That's just... odd. A pure flying type could use roost to grant themselves an immunity to ghost for a turn. Well, at least I know before I end up on the wrong end of that situation.

It could be potentially more interesting as a wall if it learned Roost instead of Air Slash as its flying move.

Would it not become the ??? type for that turn having only flying type and all, i understand that flying/normal pokes becomes normal but a pure flying becoming normal seems ilogical

As illogical as it may seem, GameFreak coded them to become Normal type. It's already been proven.
