Nintendo's response to cheaters and hackers

#1RoyalDroneXPosted 7/5/2013 10:38:51 AM
i'm sure to some this is old new, but to those who have been living under a rock for the past week

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/06/the_pokemon_company_lays_down_the_law_on_cheaters

Nintendo's basically announced that it'll be cracking down on cheaters. Though the corrupting file could be a scare tactic, the fact of the tournament thing could be due to the rampant use of
pokegen/pokesav'd pokemon.

More curious on people's take on this and if Nintendo's taking the right step to ensure this issue of it.

and, to avoid a flame war, please don't try and give justified reasons to hacking due to IV/EV issues. It's been done hundreds of times with no evidence of benefits -_-

Valiant but idiotic try

Expertly Gen'd pokemon are 100% indistinguishable from legit ones.

Check the X board's topics on this, everyone with a brain is saying the same

It would be nigh-on impossible for them to damage the game either unless X/Y added in unique coding not present currently in pokeGTS and the like when creating pokemon. This would be the only reason (along with crap junk coding from poorly made pokemon) for a game to actually be damaged.

That sort of goes for competitions too, but as they stand, they're going to have to be very good seeing as the generated pokemon use the same code as the game pokemon...

Not to mention, if it is possible to import from previous gens as will likely be the case, the old gens won't have that code creation so they will simply load em up on gen V and carry them over for a majority. and with the new pokes, they'll figure something out, it just takes time.

I heard some will check for things that range from ribbons to even using human judgement.

The only thing this does is punish the amateur hackers.

A good hacked Pokemon cannot be distinguished from a real one.

And there's a stage when it's ridiculous to waste 100s of hours breeding the right IVs or trying to capture the right Pokemon.

Their response should be to make it really hard to hack. All they need to do is have the save checksum stored in the 3DS system memory to kill editing of saves, then apply the same encryption to the GTS as they currently have for Mystery Gifts.

The 3ds blocked AR. But code junkies found a way to bypass it. The pokemon black 2 had a block but codejunkies found a way. Online they block illegal pokemon but hackers found a way to make it look legit. Hackers, and codejunkies allways find a way. Then that one person would say it to his friend. Next week, everyone knows how.

but realistically, it took them a year just to realize that the system sort of ran like a DSi. Second, nintendo has ways of blocking the AR one, the "hacked" ones that are legit are Pokegen'd then using the legit checker program Nintendo uses to fool the servers. However, what makes you think Nintendo isn't ahead of the curve? Remember how Pokegen still is worried about having their Emu-GTS DNS not working because of Nintendo's programming.

Thing is, just because you crack something doesn't mean the programmers won't break it.

RNG will still exist even if the hacks are entirely stopped.
