The Pokemon World Championships are starting in a few days in Vancouver, BC, Canada! This is the first time ever the World Championships have taken place outside of the US. The best of the best in both TCG and VGC will gather together to try and claim the title of World Champion. The Last Chance Qualifier takes place on August 9th while the main tournament is played on August 10th and 11th.

This year some of the VGC and TCG top cut matches along with all of the finals will be live streamed on TPCi's official Pokemon Twitch channel ( http://www.twitch.tv/pokemon ). VGC commentary will be done by Nugget Bridge's Scott Glaza (Scott) and Evan Latt (plaid) while TCG commentary will be done by Josh Wittenkeller (TheJWittz) and The Top Cut‘s Josue Rojano (Crimz). All four of them are very well known in the competitive community so expect things to go much better than last year.

Unofficially, some Swiss round VGC matches may be streamed on the Nugget Bridge Twitch channel ( http://twitch.tv/nuggetbridge ). Keep an eye on their Twitter ( https://twitter.com/nuggetbridge ) for updates on this.

Last Chance Qualifier was today. It was a single elimination tournament with Best of 3 rounds. I needed top 4 to advance to the next day but I lost in the top 32 to a person I knew. I had a lot of fun, though. It was my first time getting to meet players from Japan and many other countries from around the world.

I was there today, wow what a blast!

Aside from being Streetpass heaven, it was really fun to pick up some exclusive swag, plushies and cards. I'm bummed because I missed out on the special Vancouver Pikachu plushie for $10. =(

Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself too TRE, will you be there tomorrow for Masuda and the closing ceremonies?

I'll be there to watch the finals live and the closing ceremony. I had a lot of fun yesterday. The MegaKangaskhan was really cool to see in person. The Top 8 VGC match shown was amazing. Watching a friend get screwed over so badly by the RNG in the top 4 was tough to watch through.

Why would they use 2 vs 2 instead of the normal 1 vs 1?
I haven't played pokemon in a long while but I am confused, isn't 1 vs 1 the most used way of playing?

last time they did singles world championships was back in the 3rd gen IIRC
