Are EA serious with the UK price on Origin?

#1lv54spacemonkeyPosted 3/1/2013 11:08:22 AM
45 for the "limited" edition, quite how the standard download is limited I don't know, and 65 for the deluxe edition. Amazon are selling the standard one for 35. Is the difference of a few things worth the 10 difference from the standard retail one to the Origin one?

Agreed, the only difference from the standard to the limited, is you don't get the Heroes and Villains DLC, which look gimmicky anyway.

However, I ordered it off of Game. You get the collectors edition and 3 EA iOS apps, for 43, as opposed to the 65 on the SimCity website.

First off, this gets me every time somebody uses "are." EA is a SINGLE company. Singular. Is.

Second. Why complain about something you're not bring forced to buy? Don't seem it worthy, don't buy it. Don't act like EA is the only company that does this.

When I saw the VAT price, I was shocked. I never knew tax on goods was that high there. I thought it was 5, not 20 percent. Guess I won't be getting SC until April or early may still.

It's like buying a 500,000 just to find out it actually cost 600,000 and other fees. I know the VAT is for houses, but I may be wrong since I live in us. And yeah, they should lower prices to 33, 40, and 53

35 GBP is about what I payed in USD/CAD ($53) for the digital GMG LE copy.

Yeah I reckon I'll get the one on Amazon. Could have sworn it didn't say limited edition the other day.

There's only two editions. Limited and Deluxe. It's EA marketing. They've been selling "limited" editions of their games for years, but they aren't truly limited at all. It's the standard.

True, should have known better. I think the only EA game recently that has a legit standard version is Battlefield 3.

Well doesn't the US have a regional/state tax, that's variable based on item grouping and added to the price of goods at the till (or something like that)? I've always found that slightly annoying when I've visited the US; thinking something was such-and-such a price, getting the right change, and then finding it was 10-ish% more.

But yeah, VAT sucks - it used to be 17.5%, less than half a decade ago, then it was dropped to 15% for a couple of years, before putting it up to 20% - but at least it's pre-built into the price of items.

Really, the only things you don't get VAT on are items that are necessities for low income families, like certain items of food (bread, milk etc), water, or baby clothes.

As far as I know, taxes (VAT) is applied to sticker price. Here in Canada/US, tax is applied after sticker price, and it varies per state/province (ie, ontario - 59.99 sticker price in store will ring at 67.80). It's why I basically never buy retail electronics here anymore, I just buy it off of Steam or GMG and get it at face price.
