My answer is 3000 from 99. Best music in the series, a great interface to work with, easier to manage water and other ultilities. It's no wonder iOS & DS were pretty much based on my favorite Simcity game. --- Kain: Won't you call for help, doctor? Dr. Lugae: Don't take me lightly or you'll get burned!
I have a feeling that 2000 is widely considered to be the most loved, the one that got everyone into the series, and that it will win the poll (adjusting 25% of the votes for 2013's game shouldn't count because we are in THIS message board, and not 2000's message board).
2K surely got me loving the series more and more, even though my 2nd all-time (SNES) was my first one. --- Kain: Won't you call for help, doctor? Dr. Lugae: Don't take me lightly or you'll get burned!
Voted SC4, but with several tied for second. Only SC game I disliked was SCS, but I've only played the PC versions and 1991 SNES game. I hear some of the other console versions were even worse than SCS. --- The statement below is true. The statement above is false.
4 for sure. I started with the first one, and 2000 is probably the SimCity I put the most hours in, but 4 is the best in the series. --- "I can't buy a pack of smokes without running into 9 guys you've ****ed!"

What is good about 4 to you?
When I bought that game in 03, it was like a total reversal from 3000. I didnt like the music at all, the interface & popups can get annoying, and the art (colors) on-screen look very bland to me. If you compare a screenshot of 3000 & 4, 3K is very vibrant and colorful, even though its lower in res. 4 looks more real, but colorless....almost like they used too dark of shades of coloring for the art. When you mix the music with that, I just don't feel proud in my city in that game at all.
You? --- Kain: Won't you call for help, doctor? Dr. Lugae: Don't take me lightly or you'll get burned!
It's been a long time since I've played any of them, but I felt like 4 had the most options (though I did miss the creation tools that came with 2000). 4 was basically 3000 with higher resolution graphics and more robust management tools. I agree about the darkness graphics and the music (though I believe I just downloaded music from 2, 3 and 4 and played all of it) but I didn't mind 4's default music and I thought the art style was ok, if not quite as good as 3000. Mostly I liked 4 because I felt like it gave me more power to make the city I wanted to make than the previous SimCity games. In fact, that's about how I've felt about every SimCity game so far (except this one, which I haven't played yet). --- "I can't buy a pack of smokes without running into 9 guys you've ****ed!"
When you play 5 you will be completely 'immersed' in how real it feels, as you are using WASD + mouse wheel to zoom around the camera. This one is the easiest to build cities and maintain them, but with the small city sizes and lack of overall quantity of special buildings, you might not feel the most power in this one. But like the review says, its one of a kind, and probably the most different one in the end. --- Kain: Won't you call for help, doctor? Dr. Lugae: Don't take me lightly or you'll get burned!
