Sim City Strategy and Casino Gameplay Video Series

Great questions Noncasus!

So my plan was originally to aim for around 22-24 videos in the series, this puts it at roughly the same length as the electronics series. However I've had a much harder time getting profitable with this city, I still have yet to unlock ANY of the upgrades from gambling HQ after 7 hours of game play. Not sure how much further I have left to go, right now though interest is still pretty high in the series so I'll keep cranking them out until the viewers get sick of seeing my budget in the red! :P

The tutorial is meant to be a single city in a single region. I chose to do this because not everyone has friends that play the game and public cities are unreliable at best and a total bug filled disaster that destroys your city at worst. I'll give you a good example of this:

So if you have unfilled jobs, commuters will come into your city to fill them. This causes traffic at your main city entrance on the avenue. If these sims don't find work and exit your city by the end of the night, the next day ANOTHER set of commuters is spawned to come commute and work in your city. The servers don't register that these people aren't able to get out of your city because it has become a gridlocked disaster and commuters will endlessly spawn until you finally just have to delete your roads and start over.

Ah, I see.

One more question, are you going to change the time of the stream since I saw you kept getting server errors the last few times?

I actually think I figured out what the problem was there, I think me pausing the game inbetween recordings to do a "cut" was actually contributing to disconnecting me from the server. The other times I've tried streaming since not pausing I haven't had any problems.

There hasn't been a stream for awhile I've been busy at work, but there will be one up tomorrow at 1pm!

Hey everyone DinosGG and I've got a couple more parts to the series!

Part 20: www.youtube.com/watch?v=URF_Ax--m6w

Part 21: www.youtube.com/watch?v=phibcqhyzeo

In part 20 I decide to take a tip from one of the viewers and place down the opera house! In order to do this I have to bulldoze my expo center and if you've been watching the previous videos then you know how much money this has been making for me and what a risk this is! Hopefully it ends up paying off and not bankrupting me, which you'll see in part 21!

I'll have parts 22 and 23 up tomorrow so stay tuned!

Part 22 and 23 as promised!

Part 22: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NICZoqluxOo

Part 23: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9x4nacQ4sQ

Parts 22 and 23 are spent gearing up to plop down the Elegant Casino! I start thinking to myself with this gigantic influx of high wealth tourists coming into town off the ferry that I can maybe make some real money on this building. It is profitable but like most of my experience with Casinos it is only profitable during certain hours of the day, namely right before the opera event when the boat comes in. Sims almost never go to the Casino after an event from what I am noticing as well.

I think I'm getting close to being done with this series once I hit the 100k mark, I've made it up to having a maxed out 300/300 Elegant Casino, and I don't really have much space unless I decide to dezone the rest of my city. Next time I might do a challenge where I purchase utilities and services from neighbors in the region and just zone the entire square as casinos and see how it turns out.

If you've had fun watching don't forget to subscribe on youtube.com/DinosGG to see what I'll do next!

DinosGG and this is part 25 of my series on how to build a casino town!

I get another opera house plopped down to start making even more money! With it I manage to hit 100k in gambling profit! From here on out I basically just try to see if I can hit 200k through tricks and microing the casinos on and off at key times to try and make the max amount of profit. But in my mind the city is complete from here. The reason for this, the gaming division does nothing for your high wealth casinos because roulette houses are broken, and the lodging division is so expensive and useless compared to the free hotels I have zoned. I'm still not even sure if the entertainment division is worth it because it isn't drawing tourists to that specific casino. If I had laid out my city a little different/better than this would be more profitable. This is the effective end of the series, I will post the remaining parts just in case you're interested.

Hi everyone, I'm DinosGG and this Tuesday at 1pm pacific time I'm going to be doing a stream on Evoland! I've never played this game before so if any of you are on the fence about a purchase and want to see some first impressions be sure and check it out! I'll be streaming 1080P with chat open (no spoilers please) and commentary for anyone who wants to check it out! I love classic style games such as this along with other popular titles like 3Ddot game heroes, legend of grimrock, Zelda Classic, etc.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/233470/

My stream is over at twitch.tv/DinosGG I also stream Sim City from time to time if you're interested in that game as well. If you miss out on the stream and still want to see how it goes I will have the videos over at Youtube.com/DinosGG in the coming days!

Hope to see some of you over there tomorrow! Thank you for your time.

Tourism in general seems a LOT more profitable after the patch! At one point on a test city I was doing with just the tourism buildings and no casinos they were making well over $200k every day in the neighborhood of 10,000+ tourists. Would you guys be interested in seeing another video series for casinos later on down the road to show off these new changes?

It might be worthwhile if it works out this time. I tried casinos myself after seeing your first series but before the patch and ran into many of the same issues and eventually gave up cause of the upkeep costs. Its better now but its still very inconsistent as far as I can tell. It appears the roulette house bug has not been fixed either since it does not increase gambler capacity.

What I have learned so far is:
-Lodging is a lot cheaper now so worthwhile to use
-Casino signs attract more people it seems (with elegants giving 600 high and 600 medium wealth per day... thats what the tool tip says at least so who knows!)
-Opera houses, expo centers, and stadiums still draw people in but also offer competition for casinos during event hours... and that can really hurt with a bunch of elegant casinos.
-The exclusive clubs via the entertainment division do seem to help even though they are expensive and just are not as effective as I would like for the cost.
-High wealth casinos like the elegant create serious traffic problems in higher numbers as the tourists tend to only use cruise ships and airports to arrive/depart and always travel via car within the city

I don't dare turn the casinos off an on like you did as I have a feeling that might effect the attraction abilities of their signs/clubs/etc. The stadiums/expo centers have signs like these you can place but from what I can tell they only seem to work if you schedule events (and they create even more traffic issues on top of the normal casino traffic).

It seems the main issue I have with elegants now is getting people out of the casinos and to the transportation building they want to exit my city by fast enough for new tourists to be qued up. Even though my best days are over 400k I am still losing money most of the time due to an expensive police precinct to combat crime. My profits are not even close to what I can pull with the same money in an electronics city on these "good days" and the traffic is FAR worse.
